Filmmaker M Night Shyamalan has earned a reputation in the Hollywood film industry as a creator of critically and commercially acclaimed movies that include The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village and The Happening through his knack of creating exciting and intriguing movies with a contemporary, supernatural theme.
His latest action/adventure offering, After Earth, features the charismatic father-son duo of Will Smith and Jaden Smith whose chemistry in The Pursuit of Happiness still lingers as a memory of remarkable cinematic characters.
According to the pre-release publicity for After Earth the film is about a crash landing that leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. Cypher is critically injured and Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.
This is a story of survival, faith, hope and courage as the father and son must learn to work together and trust one another to keep alive the hope that they can make it back home.
The storyline is innovative and sure to whet audience speculation and interest. After Earth promises great special effects, a very different planet Earth with dangerous human-averse creatures and terrains, a brilliant cast (including Lincoln Lewis) and catchy dialogue.
This film will be a must for all the ‘Smith family’ fans out there who will be keenly anticipating what could be a new chapter in the Sci-Fi movie genre.
After Earth will have its Australian release on June 13, 2013.
