Malaysian idol Jaclyn Victor will be flying in from Malaysia to perform at the Malaysia Festival on September 22 at the expansive Tumbalong Park in Sydney’s beautiful Darling Harbour.
MFest, back for its third consecutive year with what promises to be an eventful celebration of the diverse and vibrant culture of Malaysia within the Sydney community, hopes to attract crowds of up to 30,000.
Lihwen Soo, chief executive producer of MFest 2013, said last year the not-for-profit festival had attracted 27,000 and this year hoped to break that record.
“Every year the stage performances change. This year we will be having Indian, Malay and Chinese dances and Jackie M [from Malaysian restaurant ‘Jackie M’ in Darlinghurst] will be doing a variety of cooking demonstrations on the main stage. Our first Malaysian idol, Jaclyn Victor, will be flying in from Malaysia to perform at the festival.”
The Malaysia Festival is run by Malaysian students from all over NSW chosen from the four main universities including the University of NSW, Macquarie University, the University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney. MFest is all about what the students have achieved with such a large-scale event.
MFest’s motto is ‘a cultural journey into the heart of Malaysia’. The festival focuses on the cultural aspects of Malaysia encompassing performances and food. This year, other cultural events including cultural games will showcase Malaysian culture to Sydney.
Malaysia Festival 2013 will be held on September 22 from 10am to 5pm at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour. Check out the MFest 2013 festival website for more information.
