Run away with Circus Oz this spring

CircusOz2014_PR925_creditedThe highly anticipated Circus OZ show But Wait…There’s More is touring New South Wales delighting audiences until October 24.

In regional centres from Wagga Wagga to Port Macquarie audiences can expect the unexpected from this exceptional circus that has become world-renowned for its unique approach to an age-old favourite form of entertainment.

Co-founder Tim Coldwell attributes the success of Melbourne’s very own home- grown circus to the creation of original stunts and equipment that give audiences an unforgettable experience.

“The circus is all about doing things that are a bit risky and scary. People want to go to the circus to see things that they wouldn’t do themselves,” Coldwell said.

CircusOz2015_RBP5385_HR_PhotographerRobBlackburnThat includes the design and creation of equipment for one-of-a-kind performances that make Circus Oz’s performances original; Coldwell’s most spectacular invention included the creation of the state-of-the-art big top, unveiled in Sydney in 2000.

“I aim to create performances that entertain and excite audiences, about what the human body is capable of doing and to continually push these boundaries, with every show,” he said.

The fearless performer has been pushing the boundaries since age 21 when he ran away to join the circus, one of the best decisions he has ever made. Drifting in and out of university, Coldwell connected with like-minded spirits who saw potential in joining the circus as a type of theatrical performance.

But surprisingly, he says that his successful career was something he stumbled upon.

“The popular myth of having a passion means you are copying what somebody else has already done because it’s not totally original. You learn and grow through doing different things, until you find something you like and work from there,” he explains.

Now, a mere 40 years later, the self-taught genius has led an extraordinary life travelling the world, with some of his favourite places including Columbia, Italy and the South of France.

Career highlights? “Too many to mention,” he replies.

Wait…There’s more features a cast of 12, wrapped under their age old philosophy of Circus Oz, which include community, humanity, hilarity and diversity.

The performances include a satirical look at our day-to-day lives, original acts including never before seen flying trapeze, a BMX bike act, nudity, their very own ring mistress, jugglers, high flyers, hoola hoop dancers, death defying jumps, music makers, and live music.

The music played by up to 12 musicians will add to the merriment with the second act in the show throwing “a Latin party”, according to Coldwell.

Sounds like there’s going to be a lot more to make everyone happy in Wait…There’s more.
