Glebe Record Fair: Vinyl your way into old-school music

The bi-annual Glebe Record Fair is back soon, and it’s worth every penny.

Let the music play, let the tunes guide your steps, let your feet tap to the beat, and let the vinyl records spin for come Saturday, April 20, the Glebe Record Fair will be held at the Peter Forsyth Auditorium, near the Broadway Shopping Centre.

For the uninitiated, this Fair is a one-stop shop for music lovers to bathe in the vintage unparalleled beauty of yesteryear’s vinyl that can never be topped by one-click music downloads.

Founders Baz Scott and Ric Trevaskes (from Egg Records) started the Fair in 2002.

“There was a need for a fair in Sydney’s inner city and it has been growing over the years to become one of the best record fairs around,” Scott says.

Judging by the high standard set at last year’s Fair in October when hundreds braved wet weather to make their way to the auditorium, this year will also deliver an exhilarating high dose of musical pleasure through vinyl.

The event promises Sydney’s largest collection of secondhand vinyl records and collectable CDs. The Fair gives buyers access to prominent record stores like Egg Records, Redeye, Utopia and Revolve Records, and also other independent sellers and traders of vinyl and CDs.

“There are over 100 stall holders covering everything from rock, jazz, blues, dance, Hip-hop … whatever takes your fancy, there should be something there for lovers of vinyl,” says Scott.

Independent record seller, Tony, exhibits his impressive collection every weekend at the Glebe Markets. He speaks with enthusiasm of the joys of vinyl.

“New records arrive weekly at Glebe Markets. I’ve been selling them now for 16 years and I’m getting too old, but music keeps me young.”

Just across from the weekly Glebe Saturday Markets, the Fair also sells CDs, books and music memorabilia. Rare records are hard to come by so don’t miss this chance to increase your collection or start a new one.

The Fair is sponsored by Egg Records and Redeye Records. Early Bird entry for collectors is from 9am to 10am, admission $6. General Admission is $3 and runs from 10am to 4pm. For more information, visit www.eggrecords.com or call 9550 6056.
